As the the airtel FUFA awards climaxed yesterday at Speke resort Munyonyo, I would love to congratulate the winners of the different accolades in their different categories, Onduparaka captain Shaban Muhammed who scooped the biggest award of the day, Footballer of the year award 2016/17 taking a home a brand new Alteza and Woman footballer of the year Hasifa Nassuna, KCCA FC’s Mike Mutebi winning the coach of the year award beating former Onduparaka and now Masavu coach Allan Kabonge.
Nkumba select’s Roch Peter Somoka winning the UBSA national beach soccer league player of the year.
KCCA trio of creative genius Muzamiru Mutyaba, striker Robert Sentongo, captain Denis Okot along with Vipers Elisa Sekisambu, Keironi Kizito Halid Lwalira made the cut for FUFA XI.However controversies raised on three major areas, the criterion for voting the coaches, another on whether in one way or the other Onduparaka young star could beat the Mamelodi shot stopper, lastly of what Mike Mutebi did exceeds what the young coach Allan Kabonge did.
Starting on the voting Criteria, it was vague in that even one of the competing coaches wasnot informed and didnot know the procedure, and earlier the organising commitee had confirmed it will the coaches to vote but yesterday morning before the function they were urging the public to vote by sendig coaches names to 8888, so a lot of un professionalism was exhibited here, so homework for the organising committee in the next awards ceremony.
Secondly, before the awards Kabonge had tipped the Onduparaka captain to win for his great display and I think he is among the happy Ugandans for Shaban’s victory though himself was beaten but another group of Onyango fanatics are harsh on the committe and FUFA indeed miserable, I my self believing Shaban is the best striker in the country currently am happy for the young star, however other Ugandans still can’t believe there is any way Shaban could beat the nominee for African Player of the year based in Africa, some have taken it for betrayal, others sympathy ,and some incompentance in the organising committe, so I leave it to the reader.
In my thinking if the Cranes goalie lost in his own house or backyard Ugandans should expect little when he is competing at continental level with African cream.
Loosing to Shaban Mohammad means a lot and depresses Onyango’s chances to beat either club mate Khama Billiat or TP Mazembe Zambian sensational Reinford Kalaba with who also have CAF champions league and CAF confederation respectively.
Thirdly and last controversy is whether Mutebi winning the league title with Sam Simbwa, loosing to Vipers in the semis in Uganda cup and currently on top of the AUPL log beats Allan Kabonge who promoted Onduparaka FC to AUPL, lost to Vipers in the AUPL, currently on top with Masavu on the vergy to AUPL soccer next season, Raising Shaban, Rashid Toha, and Gadaffi Gadinho to National team ranks, I leave it to you.
Being it was not AUPL awards but rather FUFA awards after Onyango, Miya, loosing for the big award I expected if not automatic to see them in the FUFA XI because they had proved the best 5 in the country as we say Sekisambu and Ochaya making it, lets learn from this.
