AFCON 2017: Mukiibi, Mugerwa & 3 others dropped as Micho names Cranes travelling squad.

Ahead of the Uganda cranes international friendly in Tunisia and Dubai before the kick off of the AFCON 2017 in Gabon, Uganda cranes tactician Mullitin Micho Sredjovic SC has dropped 5 players and will have to be on the emergency waiting list.

 

On the 26 man squad named today Swedish based center half Ronald Mukiibi, Vipers goalie Isma Watenga, Sc Villa young star Abdul Malik Vitalis Tabu and Derrick Nsibambi will remain behind hoping for an immediate call.

 

Another surprise omission is earlier summoned St George midfielder Yasser Mugerwa who does appear on the travelling list. Cranes Coach believes the St George star will be late to join the squad.

 

KCCA’s goal keeper Benjamin Ochan, Robert Odongkara, Salim Jamal and Mamelodi shot stopper Denis Onyango complete the travelling goal keeping department of which one will be dropped from the squad to Gabon.

 

Viper’s duo of Nicholas Wadada and midfielder –calm defender Hassan Wasswa makes the cut, as well as KCCA’s Muzamiru Mutyaba, Timothy Awany and Joseph Ochaya.

 

KPL left footed stars Shaffick Batambuze and Godfrey Walusimbi, Lebanon based Denis Iguma, Simba SC young star Murushid Juuko, club less Isaac Isinde are among the defenders on the 26 man squad that will travel to Dubai and Tunisia where Cranes preparations will continue before the final 23 will be selected dropping more two field players.

 

Onduparaka captain Shaban Muhammad, Idirisa Lubega, Goefrey Serunkuma is other local based players on the list. Surprise inclusions are Yunusu Sentamu and Geoffrey Baba Kizito who were not earlier part of the squad.

 

Usual suspects William Luwagga Kizito, Moses Oloya, Baroka duo of Aucho Khalid and Massa, and Farouk Miya completes the squad.

 

The Cranes will be in Tunis from Saturday 31 December to 5 January and play Tunisia in a build up match on Wednesday 4 January in preparation for the dream AFCON finals.

 

Uganda Cranes will be playing in Port Gentil and will kick off will begin the AFCON on January 17against Black stars, and face West Africans Mali and the Pharaohs in the Group stages..

Goal keepers: Denis Onyango, Robert Odongkara, Salim Jamal, Benjamin Ochan.

 

Defenders: Nicholas Wadada, Denis Iguma, Joseph Ochaya, Shafik Batambuze, Isaac Isinde, Timothy Awany, Murushid Jjuuko.

 

Midfielders: Hassan Wasswa Mawanda, William Kizito, Muzamir Mutyaba,Geoffrey Walusimbi, Tony Mawejje, Khalid Aucho, Mike Azira, Moses Oloya, Geoffrey Kizito.

 

Forwards: Geoffrey Sserunkuma, Yunus Sentamu, Mohammed Shaban, Edrisa Lubega, Geoffrey Massa, Faruku Miya.
