2017 AFCON: Leicester Jeff Schlupp Surplus to Grant in provisional Ghana squad.

Leicester Jeff Schlupp misses in provisional Ghana squad.

Before naming the final 23 man squad to travel to Gabon, former Chelsea boss  Avram Grant in his  provisional 26-man squad for the Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon on Monday, decides to drop Leicester City aggressive winger Schlupp.

Jeff Schlupp who has not had much playing time at the club falling in the pecking order with Marc Albrighton and arrival of Ahmed Musa ahead of him at the EPL champions.

 

Club mate and Ghanananian defensive midfielder Daniel Amartey made the cut in Ghana coach Grants’s squad along with Club captain Asamaoh Gyan, vice captain Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew.

 

Cordoba goalkeeper Razak Brahimah, Adam Kwarasey who turns out for Norway outfit Rosenberg, and home based  Richard Ofori complete the goal keeping department.

 

Experienced Newcastle FC dancing winger Christian Atsu playing in the England championship makes the squad while Juventus midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah is sidelined by injuries.

Experienced Emmanuel Agyemang Badu, Schalke 04’s Baba Rahman,  Afriyie Acquah makes the provisional squad as well as Pirates center half Edwin Gymah.

 

Grant is expected to announce the final 23 man squad today 4th January after an assessment in the United Arab Emirates training camp,

The tournament kicks off in Gabon on 14 January, Ghana will be based in Port-Gentil, Ghana will play Uganda on Tuesday January 17th and the same day  Mali will host Egypt in group D.

The black stars will take on Mali in the second group game, as the Pharaohs play host to  the Cranes on 21stJanuary and in the last group games  Egypt will take on Ghana as Uganda host Mali.
