Hector Cuper: Egypt is after winning the AFCON Championship in Gabon.

We aim at winning 2017 AFCON Championship in Gabon,’ Cuper.

 

The 61 year old Egyptian coach Héctor Raúl Cúper confirms, the Pharaohs will arrive in Gabon for AFCON 2017 with just one intention to win the Championship and believes his team will do the best to achieve the set target. As the AFCON kicks off on 14th as Gabon take on Guinea Bissau.

Cuper who scored 34 goals in 567 in his senior playing career at Huracan, Ferro Carril Oeste and Independiate Rivadavia has managed a number of top European clubs.

 

The former Inter milan, Valencia, Parma , Betis manager Cuper asserts, he tell his players to give in their best to win all games being the Egyptian national team is the most successful side in the history of the African football tournament and has won the cup a record seven times.

 

“We are going to Gabon, and we want to win the competition, so I always urge my players to give in their best”

 

Having won the last AFCON edition in Angola in 2010, had gone back to the drawing board missing on three editions in Gabon & Equatorial Guinea, 2013 in South Africa and in Equatorial Guienea which Ivory Coast won

 

The Argentine coach who named the provisional squad will have to trim the squad to 23 from the earlier 27 man squad with four more players to be dropped from the Gabon squad. And he answers the number of people who ask him about the Egyptian chances of playing in the world cup.

 

“About the questions am oftenly asked about the World Cup, but winning the AFCON  is also important, we will never think that the African championship is not important, we will try to do our best, We will try to win every game we play,” the veteran coach asserted.

 

Egypt will kick off the AFCON against Mali on Tuesday January 17th and will be based in Port-Gentil, and will face Uganda on 21st January and close the group with Ghana on the 25th for the group games and is placed alongside Ghana, Mali and Uganda in Group D
