The UCU Lady Cardinals defeated Lango Queens 5-1 at home in their FUFA Women Elite League first game of the second round.
Skipper Maureen Kinavudori opened the score before Hasifa Nasuna notched four to take the team to 20 points in the Elizabeth group, two ahead of Kampala Queens who drew 2-2 with Isra soccer Academy.
Kampala Queens, the Cardinals’ and Uganda Martyrs were all tied on 17 points before kickoff but the Mukono based side now has a slim advantage on the top of the Elizabeth group, as Uganda Martyrs play Makerere University on February 3.
“Our target is to go past the playoffs and win the title plus other trophies that will come our way,” coach peter Ssebulime told sports 256.
Lango Queens found a consolidation goal through zamzam Akullo but tactician Geoffrey Okwi believes lack of integration of his players on time solely left them helpless as the his side remains on 4 points after the loss.
Nasuna who now takes her goal tally to nine was pleased with the teams’ performance although skipper Kinavidori’s injury scare will remain of concern after she was substituted.
Lango next play Olila High School while the Lady Cardinals will travel to Uganda Matyrs Lubaga, another tie that Ssebulime believes three points will surely be vital in their pursuit for the top two slots that qualify them for the playoffs.
Meanwhile Uganda Matyrs will hope to bounce back to winning ways too when the two sides meet on February 17.
