Coach Faridah Bulenga’s Kampala Queens have remain at the summit of the table after securing three points from Town View SS Bugiri, in the FUFA Elite Women’s League this evening, in a game played at Old Kampala primary school.
The 4-0 triumph now means her side remain top of the Elizabeth with eighteen points, three ahead of the UCU Lady Cardinals, who travel to Uganda Matrys Lubaga tomorrow.
Bulenga’s side went into this game only ahead of the Cardinals on goal difference, with both teams tied on fifteen points apiece but with an easier tie today, edging past Town View SS who remain on six points, they know that a loss of points especially for the Cardinals will bolster their chances of topping the group.
Uganda Martyrs have thirteen points, in a group deamed one of death and should they pick three points tomorrow they will go to sixteen in second place, one ahead of the Cardinals.
Hasifa Nassuna, the Lady Cardinals’ vice captain told sports 256 they are determined to best the best to make it to the playoffs.
Nassuna has seen the back of the net nine times this season, including her four goal score against Lango Queens and with skipper Maureen Kinavudori available, the pair can try to upset the home side.
“We will play our best and try to win the game because we are determined, Nassuna says.”
The cardinals have always found the Martyrs ground quite difficult to get a positive result from but after being ejected from the Uganda Cup at home last weekend by bitter rivals Kawempe Muslim, coach Peter Ssebulime is determined to defy the odds to get a positive result tomorrow.
The top two winners from the group will qualify for the playoffs and what remains to be seen is how either of these two sides can mount pressure on table leaders Kampala Queens, who are looking quite impressive so far.
Hasifa Nassuna (R) will lead the line for the Cardinals when they travel to Uganda Martyrs tomorrow.
