In a bid to defend the title they won last season, having swept UCU Lady Canons 4-0, the JKL Ladies team began training on Tuesday at Nambole.
“It was our first training session, we did more of loosening up and getting to know new players, how they play since we are all a little bit rusty and fat, “Flavia Oketcho, the JKL Lady captain said.
Oketcho believes that as defending champions, their primary target this season will be to retain the domestic crown despite accepting it will not be easy.
“We are ready to defend our championship and we know it will be hard however we are determined to do so,” she adds.
In preparation for the FUBA National Basketball League, the session attracted eleven of the thirteen players with Flavia Oketcho, Angella Namirimu, Peace Nakirijja, Ritah Imanishimwe, Jamila ‘Zama’ Nansikombi, Hope Akello, Evelyn Nakiyingi, Hope Gimono, Brenda Nakitende, Moreen “Momo’ Atulinda and Jane Asinde all present.
Stella Oyella and Muhayimina are set to join their colleagues for training tomorrow as the team will officially start pre-season training next week.
The Dolphins will take on KCCA Leopards, UCU Lady Canons and A1 Challenge on the 12th, 19th and 26th, respectively when the new season begins on April 12.
Henry Malinga, the teams’ assistant coach says it was a good session for the players to interact, know each other and they are ready to roll on in the new season
“We basically acquired the services of vital positions we required and we are getting ready for the forthcoming campaign,” Malinga stated.
Jane Asinde, the teams’ new forward wants to be among the top scorers in the next season as she admitted the Lady Dolphins are much organized side with a right mindset compared to her previous team.
