The Federation of Uganda Basketball Association today launched the 2019 National Basketball league season which is slated to kick off on Friday, April 12th 2019 at Lugogo indoor Stadium.
The opening games of the league will be between, the 2018 League champions JKL Lady Dolphins against KCCA Leopards at 6:00pm. The men’s game will be, the 6 time champions City Oilers against Betway Power the 2018 runners up at 8:00pm. This will be the repeat of last year’s finals.
Speaking at the press conference, The FUBA President said, “After an eventful FUBA Awards which happened on Sunday 7th April 2019 at Kabira Country Club, where the achievers were awarded for their outstanding performances during the 2018 season, the tone is set for what promises to be a very competitive and exciting season”
“We have introduced a new season ticket option that is wallet friendly; season ticket for 222 games costs 500,000 Ugx, playoffs ticket for 62 games costs 150,00ugx per person. The normal rates are Ordinary 5,000 ugx per person and VIP costs 10,000 ugx per person”, he added.
In other developments, the FUBA vice President Administration said, “ Four teams were promoted from Division one to the National Basketball League, that is Kampala University(KU) Eagles the Champions of Division one and the six time champions Falcons are also back in the top flight after one season of playing in Division one.”
“In the lady’s category, MUK Spark and YMCA Lady Hamsters were promoted to National Basketball League” he added.
They are 10 men’s league teams and 10 ladies league teams all competing for a championship of 2019 National Basketball League season. The regular season is comprised of 222 games and the playoffs will have 62 games played. The best 8 teams qualify for playoffs while the last 2 are relegated to Division 1. The teams will have a very competitive league with new recruitment in different teams.
