Despite a disheartening 1-0 loss to Angola in their opener,Uganda Cubs managed to respond with a commanding 3-0 victory against hosts Tanzania to keep the hopes of progressing through the group on the right track.
First half goals from Andrew Kawooya, Ivan Asaba and a 77th minute strike by Najib Yiga for the Cubs were enough to see off a Tanzania side that had earlier on lost its first game in a 7 goals showdown against Nigeria.
And Uganda U-17 Head coach Fabien Kwesi picked positives and belief that the teenage team can still qualify amongst the four African teams to play at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup.
“If we play like this, we are going to win that game and get the ticket to Brazil,We are happy to bounce back like that, we hope that we carry that performance into our next game so that we get the ticket that takes us to Brazil..”said the Ghanian at the post match press conference.
Although now the qualification doesn’t entirely lie in their hands after losing the first game,Uganda need to win against group leaders Nigeria in the last game and hope for a favorable result as Angola take on pointless Tanzania.
