Team Uganda off to FIBA 3×3 World Cup qualifiers

Uganda team was flagged off on Tuesday ahead of the 2019 FIBA 3×3 World Cup qualifiers scheduled for May 4-5 in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Claire Lamunu, Jamilah Nansikombi, Rita Imanishimwe and Sarah Ageno who played at last year’s global event in Philippines travel today for the qualifiers.

The side must finish among the top three to have a chance of competing at the world cup in succession after appearing at last year’s tournament.

Uganda is in Pool A along with Estonia, Australia and the hosts Puerto Rico. The other pool consists of Brazil, Spain, New Zealand and Mali.

The pool winners directly qualify for the semifinals while the 2nd and 3rd-placed teams in each pool play a quarterfinal with the winners advancing to the semifinals.
