Reigning champions Nemostars faceoff UCU Doves in league opener as Nkumba entertain Ndejje

The National volleyball league resumes tomorrow at the MTN Arena, Lugogo and will see Nkumba University Ladies play Ndejje in the women’s category, starting from 6pm.

Nkumba were crowned both league and National championships queens last season hence having represented the country at the Women’s CAVB tournament in Cairo.

In the Men’s category, NemoStars will tussle it out with the UCU Doves’ later on in the night  at 8pm, in what will be a repeat of last seasons’ final.

NemoStars defeated the Mukono based side to win the series 2-1 last year to clinch their fifth league title.

The Doves on the other hand, who lost their maiden league final won the National Championships and the UCU Open.

With both teams having represented Uganda at the recent CAVB Men’s tourney in Cairo, Egypt, it’s only fair to say the two top sides will definitely lock horns for this season’s titles.

Nemo toped their group in Cairo with thirteen points before losing in the quarters to Ahly of Egypt who were both at home and as reigning champions went on to retain their title.

The Ugandan side put up a spirited fight at the event after a clumsy performance in the first ever Zone V Club Championships in Rwanda, despite the early financial constraints to raise funds prior to their trip in Egypt.

During a press conference at Lugogo on April 28, NemoStars coach, Andrew Okapis in the company of team captain, George Aporu, unveiled Bernard Malinga, Emma Elanyu, Nicholas Agaba and Nicholas Tebalango as the new recruits for the Men’s side while Florence Kitui, from Espoir  for the Women’s team.

“These are our new signings and we are confident that they will offer their best because of their experience,” Okapis revealed.

The Doves on the other hand surprisingly made no additions to their squad, only maintaining the same side as last season.

Although the UCU Doves’ team did not travel to Rwanda for the Zone V, they put up a good performance at their first ever appearance in Cairo, finishing third in the group and eleventh overall.

The young side will surely want to revenge to NemoStars tomorrow in a bid to prove they are good enough to win the title.
