Controversy as Free Stars,Nkambi coffee miss playoff final

There were unclear and confusing reports as the Buganda Regional league play off final between Nkambi Coffee and Free Stars did not happen.

The two Buganda Regional teams were meant to tussle for a coveted promotion slot on Sunday May 19th in Kasana,Luweero.

The game meant to decide who gains promotion to the FUFA big league was halted with reports that FUFA had advised the Buganda Regional Association- a body that oversees the third tie league- that there wasn’t meant to be a second round play off.

A decision that implies that only the two top teams(Busula SC and Kajjansi Fc) from the Ssezibwa and Katonga  pools were meant to battle in the precious promotion final game.

However that route of thought is controversial and inconsistent with the earlier playoff format communicated to the clubs at the start of the 2018/2019 season as Nkambi Coffee and Free Stars the runner up sides from the pools had earlier on eliminated Busula and Kajjansi in the semifinal playoff on 17th May and had rightfully secured places in the final.

The final was never played as the match officials failed to turn up, instead the clubs’ top officials were invited for an extraordinary meeting by the Buganda Regional League competitions committee which has been perceived to be in bad faith as there seems to be conflict of interest amongst some of the top drivers on the competitions committee as Ssemugenyi(Chairman of Kajjansi) and Richard Kirabira (Chairman of Busula SC) doubly represent as officials of the teams that lost the semifinal playoff.

And should there be a rescind in the playoffs format,it will give a second chance to only the two sides that had unfortunately lost at the semifinal playoff stage.
