CHAN 2020Q: Mucurezi Left Out Of Uganda Cranes CHAN Squad To Face Somalia

Mbarara City star man Paul Mucurezi is the main face that has been left out of the Uganda Cranes 30 man provisional squad preparing for the CHAN 2020 qualifier home and away games against Somalia

Mucurezi, with vast experience playing on the Continent with former club KCCA FC and being the architect behind Mbarara City pleasing peformance last season, his surprise omission in the provisional squad has shocked many having been part of the Cranes COSAFA team

Bashir Mutanda who also had a satisfying last season, as well Suleiman Mutyaba who was influential in the KCCA FC championship winning squad and former Onduparaka captain Rashid Toha are other players not considered by tactician Abdallah Mubiru

Paidha Black Angels midfielder Ssozi Yusuf and enterprising teenager Kigozi Samson Andrew of Kakiri Town Council earn their Cranes maiden call along with Police FC agile forward Johnson Odongo comprise the new faces considered for the task

Much will be expected from Patrick Henry Kaddu, Taddeo Lwanga, Timothy Awany and Allan Kyambadde fresh from the AFCON in Egypt selected in this team

The named Squad will play Somalia in the first round of the CHAN Qualifiers 2020 over two legs to be played on 27th July and 3rd August 2019 and a non residential training session will start this Sunday at StarTimes Stadium Lugogo at 10am.

The team will be handled by Abdallah Mubiru as head coach assisted by Charles Livingstone Mbabazi and Sadiq Wasswa as goalkeeping coach 

Former Cranes Captain Geoffrey Massa has been retained as the Team Coordinator

The team will play a regional tour match against Kitara Region Select on Saturday 20th July in Hoima.

  • Friday 12th July- Uganda Squad of local based players named
  • Sunday and Monday 14th-15th July 2019: Training sessions at 10am in Lugogo
  • Tuesday and Wednesday- 16th-17th July-Double training sessions (10am/4pm) at Lugogo
  • Thursday 18th July-Training 10am at Lugogo, enter residential camp in the evening
  • Friday 19th July-Travel to Kitara, train in Hoima for the Regional tour match
  • Saturday 20th July-Uganda Cranes vs Kitara Region Select
  • Sunday 21st July travel back to Kampala
