Kitara region head coach Henry Gama is hopeful and confident that, despite loosing 1-0 to his select team, the Uganda Cranes can go ahead to get positive results when they take on Somalia in the CHAN 2020 Qualifier 1st leg duel slated for Saturday 27th July 2019 at Al Haji Hussein Guled Stadium
Gama believes Uganda Cranes coaches (of local based players) Abdallah Mubiru and Livingstone Mbabazi will have to make some changes in the tactics they used against Kitara and also define what they want the team to play if the country is to get the needed away result.
I know it was a disappointment to them loosing to a team of young boys, but the players have to double their effort to get results in Djibouti against Somalia. The coaches have to work on a few mistakes and as well make some changes in the approach and be more tactical and lastly establish their philosophy. But positively, i also think the KCCA FC players that missed the build up game will add quality to the team.
When asked about how he felt when he defeated the national team in front of the region mammoth crowds, he had this to say;
I felt happy for the win more so against a team like Uganda Cranes and I know it will always be a tough game for the Cranes when they come this side because my young boys give in their best against the best because they believe they can play for the national team too and I also try to prepare them mentally, physically, technically and tactically. Gama told Sports256
However, he didn’t hide his dream and intentions of handling the Cranes or being part of the technical team in the future as he continues to strategically position himself
As coaches we go to the same classes and study the same things, and most of these boys playing for the Cranes, have gone through our hands, so am finishing my CAF B license late this year which I started already so if the opportunity strikes I will be ready to take it with open arms
This was the second time Kitara region played the national team in the ‘Cranes na mutima’ regional tour and Gama’s Kitara held Sebastien Desabre’s Cranes to a 2-2 draw last year. Dan Serunkuma who is also part of the squad that travelled to Djibouti equalised late in the 87th minute for the Cranes last year.
The budding coach currently unattached, holds a CAF C and CAF B license (refresher), and has before coached Jogoo Young in 2005/6 with Ibrahim Kirya and Paul Nkata, Hoima FC, guided Dove FC to the FUFA Big league.
