FIFA 2022 World Cup Qualifiers (Group E):
- Thursday, 2nd September 2021 – Kenya Harambee Stars Vs Uganda Cranes
- At Nyayo National Stadium, Nairobi (4 PM
Sports256 media senior reporter Henry Musabe looks at the possible starting XI the Uganda Cranes head coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojevic could pick against Kenya Harambee stars in a crucial away group E FIFA 2022 world cup qualifier clash at Nyayo National stadium Nairobi.
Ismael Watenga (GK)
Having playing time at Chippa United in the PSL, and more experienced of the three goalies in camp, he is expected to start in post ahead of KCCA FC’s Charles Lukwago and Express’ Joel Mutakubwa
Micho has often used the versatile player at right back and in absence of Nicholas Wadada, he is tipped to play at right back ahead of inexperienced Innocent Wafula and Express captain Enock Walusimbi.
Left back is a position where Micho will have selection headache with many options, He could beat Viktoria Žižkov’s Isaac Muleme who has not been a common figure in the squad, Mustafa Kizza and Hippos’ Azizi Kayondo for a starting place.
In absence of Timothy Awany, the Vipers SC captain who was impressive on his senior national team debut with a goal is tipped to pattern experienced Juuko in the center of defense.
His experience will be crucial in the Cranes squad and no doubt he is expected to be the key player in Micho’s defense line.
Another experienced figure in the squad, he is expected to command the midfield that may have some young stars like Moses Waiswa and Bobosi Byaruhanga
The Cranes coach known for his defensive approach more especially away from home, I could easily predict he would opt for two defensive midfielders and without injured Taddeo Lwanga the U-20 star could be given chance to provide coverage to the back line alongside Aucho.
Without Allan okello, the Super-sport United Midfielder is the only central attacking midfielder in the squad that will be looked at to provide for the strikers.
The Vipers Sc winger has always lived to many’s expectations when given chance. His work rate, pace and eye on goal could beat team mate Richard Basangwa and Nsibambi for a starting spot in Micho’s XI.
The StarTimes Uganda Premier league top scorer is expected to lead the line ahead of Nsibambi who can also play the same position. He scored Uganda Cranes’ consolation during the build upmatch that ended 2-1.
The team captain is expected to start in his preferred position- left of attack though we may not as well be surprised if the coach decides to play him as the lead striker having it in mind that a draw a against Kenya away from home would be a good result.
