Nansana Youth Academy earlier produced Chrisostome Ntambi, Eddy Mubiru, Mawanda Musa, Sula Matovu, Erias Serwadda, Samuel Kivumbi, Junior Kanakulya and James Kasibante.
Back then, Nansana Youth Soccer Academy is now back, big and better as Nansana Youth Academy after rebranding.
The Academy only lived for three (3) years from 2000 to 2003 before it collapsed.
Seventeen years out of business, The academy that earlier focused on only football has now decided to involve other Sport(s).
Nansana Youth Soccer academy then, was started in 2000 by coach Tom Kirunda who bounces back as head coach, but with a fresh administration and stakeholders.
Tom Kirunda heads the academy coaching staff that also has George Nsubuga, Fred Kijjambu, Moses Kimuli, Godfrey Kitaazi.
Veteran coach Kirunda decided to make a U-turn after years, thinking he left a big void in developing area young stars’ talents.
” We have decided to bring back this initiative after the rebranding process because I have a feeling that youth football is a calling to me. We have realised since then when we produced players like Sula ‘Matovu’ Malouda, Chrisestom Ntambi, Eddy Mubiru, Shafiq Muwaya, James Kasibante, Moses Kimuli and others, Our area was lagging behind in regards to producing football stars. We used to have as many players playing for the national team and top tier clubs which is not the case now. So seeing that we currently have only Enock Walusimbi in the Cranes fold who featured for Nansana United FC, we felt challenged to get back to business and to the drawing board. Kirunda told Sports256.
Kirunda pointed at Parents’ perception as one of the challenges they face in their work.
Many parents don’t easily perceive what we try to explain to them and some of them take us to Police on the course of building these young boys, but with time they understand. And may be, another issue is still with buying equipments for the kids is another big challenge but otherwise we do our best to develop them.
Kirunda who is mainly based in Kids and Schools’ football has also managed regional league clubs St Marys FC and Nansana United FC.
The rebranded Nansana Youth Academy is located at the heart of Nansana town ‘Ku Masitowa’ behind Kenjoy Supermarket at Kibuuka Mixed Nursery School play ground in Nansana Municipality.
The new born Academy is 9 months old having been started in December 2020.
According to the Academy intermediary Junior Kanakulya, the training sessions are held only on weekends due to the COVID-19 restrictions.
“ As of now, being that the whole country has been hit by the pandemic we started on a low note and decided we first have weekend sessions and some kids study online and other have to do some house work at home but during holidays we expect to be doing four days a week (Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday) as we continue to see how the pandemic goes on.
Kanakulya also hinted at their love for the game as former soccer players as their source of inspiration to start up the Sports Academy.
” I must say we were inspired by out love for the game being Ex footballers, and we also went through the same hand of coach Tom who is the head coach. So, we hoped that the young kids can pick up from where we ended by equipping them with skills and advise which some of us did not get, can make them future stars.
We anticipate to get some sponsorships, individuals and corporate companies on board as we want to forward our proposals to them and of recent we contacted Musa Mawanda and Mike Azira and they are positive to make contributions towards the development.
