Gulu independence cup finals produced a spectacle at Gulu high school with strong favourites Gulu City Council lossing to Cradel FC via penalties 3-2.
The game was played with a limited growd under strick SOPs kicked off with Cradel FC drawing first blood in the earliest minute when a short corner kick was met by Musa to put Cradel FC in the 5th minute.
The city men bounced back in the 30 minute when Cradel FC centre back miss timed a clearance to put Okot Steven clear to lob the on coming Cradel keeper.
The Moses Oketayot coached side had several one on one chances that was blown wide open before the half time break.
In the second half, both teams amped up their tempo in search of a winning goal, with Cradel FC striker Musa coming closest as he failed to convert his chance infront of goal.
The Gulu City FC backline showed fatigue in the final ten minutes and a miscalculated clearance in the 80th minute allowed Musa to slot in a low shot, beating the city keeper to put Cradel fc ahead.
The city men showed resilience and were rewarded in the 90th minute as the Cradel keeper failed to hold a shot from Steven Okot, allowing Peter Komakech to pounce and bring city back level for the second time in the game. The match would then end up in a penalty shootout to decide the winner. Cradel FC went on to win the shootout 3-2
The Independence cup was organised by the Gulu District football Association.
Both clubs are strong contenders for the regional play offs this season with the city side looking towards promotion to the big league this season.
